In His Word, God places pastors "to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ" (Ephesians 4:11-12). "Pastor" in the Bible is Greek for "shepherd" because pastors are called by God to care for the people of God like a shepherd would care for his sheep (1 Peter 5:2-3).
Qualifications for the men God chooses to “shepherd His flock”(1 Peter 5:2) are clearly defined in the Bible, found in Titus 1:5-9 and 1 Timothy 3:1-7. God also inspired the apostle Paul to speak these words to every pastor: "Pay careful attention to yourselves and to all the flock, in which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to care for the church of God, which he obtained with his own blood" (Acts 20:28).
